MAY 15th Digging Results

This one little house had at least four privies behind it. That is really something isn't it, who would of guessed it. This is partially the set for our Sunday digging trip.
Dan and I dug this weekend with an old digging partner of his that used to live here in Michigan but has moved to Salt Lake City Utah. Jim flew into Detroit this weekend with one objective in mind, to dig privies with us. He has been digging old ghost towns in Utah with respectable success, although the age and variety in Utah just dosn't compare to what we have here. We started probing (three at a time), various points along the property line, and within minutes had located three pits.
The first pit turned out to be 1900's clinkers and ABM stuff, yuk! We quickly filled it and tried to pretend we hadn't seen it at all. Then we started the next spot in the yard (oh ya the owner Ron, ran a tax service out of the house and was a really nice guy), a few feet over from the first.
The first pieces were just inches from the surface, broken pottery and aqua blown necks,...cool! Next to show up in the cap fill was a broken green Carters cone ink, that fired me up. I then pullled out a mint S.A. WEAVER'S CANKER & SALT RHEUM bottle with applied top. Next was Jim's turn in the pit.
Jim was really enthusiastic about digging and started pulling bottles out left and right. Dr. D. Jayne's, nice local druggists, another Canker med., early Mrs. Winslows and a super peacock colored Park Davis bottle.
Dan was last to go in and immediately started pulling bottles up. More local druggist with different names, some cone inks, a nice stoneware embossed English master ink, then something beautiful to see entacted, a half pint Historical Flask. Not a scratch on it! Another lucky day at the pits
We dug four more pits that day one producing nice finds again. This one was in the neighbors yard under a sidewalk. His name was Ron also, another super home owner. Jim would pull out the next big bopper bottle from this last pit, a very rare Detroit Lion Lager Beer. Dans eyes lit up with joy. This hole also would produce several more druggists and a lemon yellow Hostetter's Bitters recently broken by a sunken fence post!
Fruits of labor
All of us had a great day and Jim was a pleasure to meet and dig with.
Nice job!
