MARCH 18th Digging Results

Hello friends. Look at all the glass in this pit! Although this pit looks loaded, it doesn't look too good, does it. You should be saying, "too new". If you did, you're right. This pit was overflowing with glass, too bad it was from the 20's or 30's.

When you probe out a possible location, you never really know what time period you're going to be in until you open it up. Did the previous outhouse patron use theirs into the fabulous 50's, or did they abandon the privy right at the turn of the century like we hope.

I always open pits up to really inspect them for signs of a possible regression in years before giving up on the site.

The pit above never really made it out of the depression era years, I was truly depressed. I had several possible privy sites to explore, so let's go to another site shall we!

TVPIT

This is the pit I dug with WNEM cannel 5's Jay Brandow for a two part 5:00 news special in Michigan here. It went really well I must say. So far two people have recognized me from the special while I was asking for dig permissions.

The tape was about people in Michigan with unique hobbies. They filmed me probing a yard looking for a privy, then doing a test hole to date it, then opening up the pit and excavating bottles.

Man did I get lucky on this one. You would probably think that with one shot at fame and finding a "good" pit to make it look cool the pit would probably open up to show nothing. That was not the case.

Keep in mind the TV crew is always rushing and running out of time which left me with about 30 minutes to locate the pit, and find an attractive bottle to woo the audience with.

COBALT GEO. NORRIS (DETROIT)

It all came together with a sweet storybook ending. This little jewel was uncovered on camera and sparkled blue in the sunshine like a rare gem. It was an electric blue Geo. Norris HUTCH from Detroit Mi.

After I pulled that one out, they wrapped up the story and took off. I continued digging the pit and found a few more nice things, but the cobalt hutch was the best find in the hole.

This new addition compliments the older Norris on the right well, don't you think?

Thanks for reading with me. Now it's off to do the next story. See you again,
